Chicken Licken Pot Holder.

I think that many of my English followers still remember the fable of Chicken Licken... the little chick that got hit by a fallen acorn and thought that the sky was falling. The character of this tale inspired me to make a cute pot holder for my kitchen.
I had to give it a somewhat silly look since Chicken Licken was a silly little chick even if the result looks more like a hen.
I am enclosing the pattern for this potholder for those who would like to make one.
Download here.
The body is in white cotton fabric, the wattles and comb in red felt... I used quilter's batting for the inside.
Remember you must cut out the batting in the same shape too.

I embroidered the outline of the eyes and brows in a stem stitch using black embroidery thread and the pupils in satin stitch using the same black thread while the beak was done in a satin stitch with yellow embroidery thread, the wings are done in a lighter yellow in a stem stitch.
I sewed on the wattles and comb in a blanket stitch with red embroidery thread.
The embroidery should be done before the back and front parts are sewn together.
Below you can see a close up of the stitches I used.
On the back of the pot holder I sewed on a tiny plastic ring for hanging.
