Printing on Fabric

My latest experiment : Printing on fabric.
I found many tutorials about this topic on the web and had to give it a try .
My project was to change the motif on the plate of a metal hanger bought during one of my visits to Malta.
I did not want to paint over the old plate so I thought of covering it with a fabric with a printed motif of my choice .

Dopo

My idea was to obtain a printed motif on fusible Vilene ( fabric interfacing).

First I opened my graphic programm , inserted the frame and motif chosen from a graphic site, found on Internet, I modified it to the desired size and inserted the text. Before printing I prepared the Vilene as follows:
I chose a lightweight 100% polyester Vilene for my project .
I cut the Vilene in the size of an A4 sheet, cutting it slightly bigger to handle better when ironing.
I ironed the adhesive side onto the paper , ( no steam).
I trimmed the extra Vilene to get an A 4 size paper and taped along the top and bottom edges of the sheet with adhesive paper tape to make sure the edges ( corners) would not get caught in the printer and block the printing process.
I must admitt I had to try this twice and the second attempt was a success.
Once the sheet was printed the next step was easy. I peeled off the printed Vilene from the paper and ironed the printed side to fix the ink.

I then covered the front of the iron hanger with batting and with the newly printed Vilene motif giving a slightly padded effect to the hanger.

Naturally I do not know how these prints will react to washing but I suggest to use the Vilene method with projects that will not undergo any washing... recipe book covers, photo album covers, bookmarks and tags for scrapbooking as well as for cards.

@DONA
