How to make doll's curly hair using a Hairpin Loom

Making and attaching doll's hair has always been a difficult task for me . Lately I have been browsing the web for ideas on dolls' hair.  I want to make some doll angel heads with curly hair and I don't fancy sewing each single curl one by one onto  the head as I had  done before on my other fabric dolls.
I think I must have searched all over the web until I found something that attracted my attention. It was a site about a HAIRPIN LOOM ... this was new to me, it was all about Hairpin  Lace. I had never heard of this before but it interested me and so I set about making my own loom. I used the wire from a laundry clothes hanger and soon I had my own loom. After a few tries I finally managed to make what looked like a strand of evenly sized curls. This is certainly what I was looking for, it is easier to sew on top of the doll's head and the curls are approximately all of the same size. I did not follow the basic crochet instuctions as in the links below ( at the foot of this post)  but used my own method .

Creando e attaccando i capelli alle teste delle bambole di stoffa è sempre stata un impresa difficile per me. Recentemente ho fatto un giro nel web in cerca di nuove idea per i capelli ricci per bambole. Voglio realizzare delle teste per angeli con capelli ricci e non vorrei dover attaccare ogni singolo riccio uno ad uno sulla testa come avevo fatto con altre bambole.

Penso di aver cercato tutto il web prima di trovare qualcosa che mi interessava. Era un sito che parlava di Pizzo a Forcella... non avevo mai sentito parlare di questo prima. Incuriosita ho letto tutto quello che potevo e dopo poco sono riuscita a realizare la mia forcella fatta con il ferro preso da un appendiabiti, del tipo che usano in lavanderia. Dopo qualche tentativo sono riuscita a creare qualcosa che sembrava una ciocca di capelli ricci tutti della stessa misura. Era esattamente quello che stavo cercando. 

Non ho seguito le indicazioni sui link in basso ( ai piedi di questo post) ma ho creato un mio metodo personale.

Weekend Shadows

Before I talk about my Shadow picture , I would like to thank you all for the wonderful comments and best wishes left on my previous post, they have been greatly appreciated by both my husband and I.

Prima di parlare della foto "Ombra", vorrei ringraziare tutti per le bellissime parole e auguri che avete lasciato sul mio post precedente, mio marito ed io abbiamo apprezzato moltissimo.

This photograph makes part of my picture collection taken during my short Roman weekend . It was taken inside the Pantheon and shows the interior of the dome with its oculus ( open skylight ).
The picture was taken by my son so all credit goes to him for capturing these interesting geomatrical shadows.

Thirty Years Ago. Trent'Anni Fà .

Today my Husband and I celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary.
They don't seem so many to me ... is this a good sign?

Oggi io e mio marito festeggiamo i 30 anni di Matrimonio.
Non mi sembrano così tanti ... sarà un buon segno?

Brownies!
I had never eaten brownies before this day... mmmmm... Yummy!
This is one delicacy I had been craving for in a long time but never got down to make myself but today, thanks to a ready packed brownie mix,  I have had the pleasure of presenting them to my family. I used  Betty Crocker's Brownie Mix . My American and English friends might think "what's so unusual about this?" Well it is not usual that I use American or English products here in Italy since I live in a small town and I don't find any of these foreign ready cake mix in our supermarkets except for the local Italian trade marks. This particular pack was one of the gifts my sister gave me during my short stay in Malta last May.
In Malta they're lucky to get  English, American and Italian products apart from their local ones,this is one thing I envy them but I am afraid the Maltese do not always realise how lucky they are in having such a big choice of foreign trade marks on the island. I always make a good stock of foreign things I don't find in Italy every time I go to Malta, these range from medicines ( the prices are much better than in Italy ) to English tea brands  some of which are definitely better than the ones I find locally.  By writing this I don't want to criticise the Italian products, on the contrary I think Italy's culinary products are among the best in the world... just think of the Parmigiano cheese, the mozzarella and the Parma Ham, these are superb! Unfortunately many countries are trying to clone these products... useless effort ... they will never equal the Italian quality... No Way!

Brownies!
Non  li avevo mai mangiati  prima d'ora ... Slurp!
Questo è un dolce che avevo voglia  di assagiare da molto tempo, ma non l'ho mai fatto, ma oggi, grazie ad un prodotto pronto , ho avuto il piacere di presentarlo alla mia famiglia. Ho usato Betty Crocker Brownie Mix. I miei amici americani e inglesi potrebbe pensare "cosa c'è di così strano in questo?" Beh non è usuale che io uso i prodotti americani o inglese qui in Italia visto che vivo in una piccola città e non trovo nessuno di questi prodotti stranieri per torte pronte nei nostri supermercati, tranne per le marche italiane.  Questa confezione particolare è stata uno dei regali che mia sorella mi ha fatto durante il mio breve soggiorno a Malta lo scorso maggio.  

A Malta sono fortunati ad avere prodotti inglese, americani e  italiani oltre a quelli  locali, questa è una cosa che io li invidio ma temo che i maltesi non sempre capiscono quanto siano fortunati ad avere una tale scelta di prodotti stranieri sull'isola. Faccio sempre una buona riserva di cose straniere ogni volta che vado a Malta, dai medicinali (i prezzi sono molto meglio che in Italia) alle marche di tè inglese, alcune delle quali sono sicuramente migliori di quelli che trovo qui.  Scrivendo questo non voglio criticare i prodotti italiani, al contrario, penso che in Italia i prodotti culinari siano tra i migliori del mondo ... basta pensare al Parmigiano, la mozzarella e il prosciutto di Parma. Purtroppo, molti paesi stanno cercando di clonare questi prodotti ...uno sforzo inutile ... non saranno mai uguali a quelli italiani...  niente da fare!

Weekend Shadows

This is a very important weekend for all the Italian football fans, the Italian National team will be playing its second World Cup game for 2010 on Sunday so I couldn't resist the temptation of posting this shadow picture, a close-up of the Italian Flag .
This was taken last October during a short stay in Rome, the original picture is this one below... Palazzo Madama. In the picture above I only cropped the flag and its shadow.
I, myself, am a fan of the Italian National Football Team, so I am keeping my fingers crossed and wishing our Blue team "Good Luck!".
I hope my English and American blog friends will understand.

Questo fine settimana è molto importante per tutti i tifosi del calcio Italiano, la nostra nazionale giocherà la seconda partita di questa Coppa del Mondo 2010, Domenica. Non ho resistito alla tentazione di pubblicare questa foto, un primo piano della bandiera tricolor. Questa era, originariamente , una foto di Palazzo Madama fatta lo scorso Ottobre durante una breve vacanza a Roma, la foto originale è qui sotto... ho soltanto selezionato la bandiera con la sua ombra. Io faccio il tifo per la squadra Italiana, tengo le dita incrociate e auguro ai nostri Azzurri "In bocca al lupo!"
Spero che le mie amiche Inglesi ed Americane capiranno.
