This is what I have been working on these past two days... here's the finished ornament.
I had seen these on sale on a website last Christmas and I just had to try some this year so here is how I painted them.I suggest Magnolia leaves for best results but in this case I used another big type of leaf , these are bush leaves which I gathered from our garden.
Io ho usato foglie grosse da una siepe nel nostro giardino, ma quelle della Magnolia sono le migliori

Materials: Kitchen paper towels, vinyl glue, acrylic or tempera colours ( red, white, black and pink) and gloss varnish.
1st Step: Put the leaves between two tissues( kitchen paper towel) and put a weight on them , two big heavy Encyclopedia volumes will do fine. Leave them for several days a week or even two.
2nd step: The leaves are now flat and dry enough to be painted. Give a base coat of vinyl glue, diluted with very little water, on the surface. Let dry for an hour.
3rd Step: Start painting the hood part at the top with the red colour of your choice, let dry.
Once this part is dry go on with the beard part in white. You may need to give two coats so let dry between one coat and another.

4th step: Paint the face , eyes, nose, moustache and mouth to your liking. Let dry.
5th step: Once the ornament is dry, give a coat of gloss varnish. Let dry well.
In my next post I will publish the pictures to show how I used these ornies.Nella mia prossima post pubblicherò le foto per dimostrare come le ho usate.

Oh, how cute. You made such cute faces. I have a great big magnolia tree just outside my front door with a "gazillion" leaves on it. Unfortunately, I've not good at painting. I've always wished I was an artist but that is not to be.
