Memories Of Way Back When

When talking of memories I nearly always find somebody who is ready to ask "Why look at the past?"
Nice question!
Now why should we look at the past ?
Looking back is not always a good thing, is it?
We should look ahead and to the future, but I can't help looking back sometimes... maybe it's because I'm not so young anymore and as I get older I have learned to appreciate those far off days when I was just a little girl , living in a totally different world compared to the present.
Life went at a slow rhythm and we were happy with the simple things.
As someone once said, but I don't remember who... " Understanding the past gives meaning to the present "... so the following is the reason why I am writing this -

I was cleaning up some drawers lately when I came across this picture of my sister and me. I was about 5 years old when it was taken and my sister nearly seven ... goodness I had totally forgotten about having this picture.
It brought a smile to my face, we were so proud of those party frocks mum had sewn for us, my sister's was trimmed in pink satin ribbon and mine was trimmed in blue... I still remember I wanted to wear mine even when I grew out of it.
We didn't have much but we loved the few things we had.
I remember our mother had stayed up late to sew our pretty frocks , she preferred the quiet late hours to do her sewing while we were fast asleep.
Yes I may be nostalgic but I am so grateful for these memories.
Now after so many years have passed a doubt keeps coming to mind... I probably never thanked my mum for that frock, I really think it is time I did ...
Thank you mum! I know it's never too late to say how much I loved that party frock.

OOh how much I would have twirled and danced if I had such a frilly frock. I love these dresses. Sadly kids are no longer being dressed in such clothes. It's not that parents don't want to but it's because you rarely find a pretty girly dress in a shop. Nowadays children's clothes are designed to be similar to adult ones: funky T-shirts, skirts, shorts, jeans but rarely a party dress.

@ Zen
Oh yes we twirled and danced in those dresses... we used to call them the ballerina dresses.

@ Marcia
Yes Marcia, I am thankful for the memories and I feel blessed for the wonderful childhood I had.

Hugs,
Sue.

Nicoletta

I like thinking of the good memories I've had in life. There is really nothing wrong with that. Such an adorable picture. I remember dresses like that. We all had them and to think that your Mom actually made them. I now see where you get your talent.

Ah, what pretty little dresses and the girls are pretty too!!
I too cherish old memories and especially love looking at old photos. One day the younger generations will understand about nostalgia.
