Walnut Shells Floating Candles

This is something that I have always wanted to try and I've finally got down to it. I had seen these floating candles at a friend's house some years ago and I think they make a very attractive table centre decoration. They are very easy to make.
Here's a little tutorial I made up.

Ho sempre desiderato fare queste candeline galleggianti e finalmente ci sono riuscita. La prima volta che ho visto queste candeline era a casa di una amica. Penso che sono molto carine e fanno un bel centro tavola.
Sono facili da fare.
Ecco qui come farle.

Walnut Shells Floating Candles
Candele di noci galleggianti

(A) You will need: (A) L'occorrente
Red Candles Candele rosse
Walnuts Delle noci

Nut cracker Uno schiaccianoci
Glass jar Un vasetto di vetro
Small saucepan Un pentolino.

(B) Crack up and empty the walnuts taking care not to break the shells.
(B) Aprite e svuotate i gusci facendo cura di non romperli

(C) Break up the red candles in small pieces, save the wick.
(C) Spezzate le candele in pezzi piccoli, conservare lo stoppino

(D) Cut the wick in pieces of 2 or 3 cms cms long
(D) Tagliate lo stoppino in pezzetti di 2 o 3 cm in lunghezza

(E) Fill a saucepan with water, put the jar with the broken candles in the water
and bring to boil till the candle wax is all melted.
(E) Fate scogliere i pezzi di candela in un vasetto di vetro a bagnomaria.

(F) Pour the melted wax into the empty walnut shells (take care not to burn your fingers in this process ) and before the wax gets solid insert the wicks in the centre of each.
(F) Versate la cera nei gusci di noce ( fate attenzione a non scottarvi le dita in questa fase) e prima che la cera si solidifica inserite gli stoppini al centro delle candeline.

(G) When the candles are solid and cool put them in a Crystal glass bowl filled with water and light them up.
(G) Quando sono solidi e freddi metteteli in un contenitore di vetro (cristallo) pieno d'acqua e accendeteli.

(H) They will float and give a nice glow in the dark.
(H) Galleggieranno e faranno un bel effetto .

The Christmas Spirit

As Christmas gets closer I am starting to get the urge to make changes and begin with the Christmas decorations. As you can see I have started with my blog layout, maybe someone may think it is still early but I will have little time to dedicate to my blog as the festive season gets closer. The earlier the better!
Mentre il Natale si avvicina mi viene la voglia di fare cambiamenti e di cominciare con le decorazioni natalizie. Come potete vedere ho iniziato con il layout del mio blog, forse qualcuno penserà che è troppo presto ma avrò poco tempo per il blog man mano che le feste si avvicinano. Presto è meglio!

Heart shaped potato !!

Nature can play strange jokes on us sometimes... this is what I found this morning among my potatoes.
I had to take a picture . It seems that this shape is quite common among potatoes, I made a search on the web and found several pictures of heart shaped potatoes, there are some very odd ones too.

La natura si diverte a fare degli scherzi qualche volta... ecco cosa ho trovato in mezzo alle patate questa mattina. Dovevo fare una foto. Sembra che questa forma è molto comune tra le patate, ho fatto una ricerca sul web e ho trovato molte foto di patate a forma di cuore, ci sono anche tante altre forme stranissime.

I have been away from my blog for a few days mainly because I have been busy creating a new printable which took me a long time to project and which I am now sharing here with you.
It is a popup christmas card which I designed and I am very satisfied with the final result.

The card will print out on an A4 sheet and the shapes are seperately on another sheet.

Sono stata lontana dal blog questi giorni perche stavo preparando questa mia ultima creazione. Ecco il mio bigliettino per Natale . E' una cartolina popup che vorrei condividere con voi. Ecco una foto del bigliettino finito, se desiderate salvare il file cliccate qui.

To assemble the card please follow the step by step instructions and the pictures below.
Seguite l'istruzione con l'aiuto delle foto.

1. Print the card and shapes, next cut out the shapes.
2. Fold the card as shown in the picture (A), lenght wise.
3. Cut along the solid lines as shown in picture (B)
4. Fold the cut sections back on both sides of the sheet and crease well along the dotted lines with your thumb or finger , see picture (C)
5. Pull up the cut sections gently and fold the card in four.
   
6. Open the card up as in picture (D)

1. Stampate il foglio del biglietto e le figure... tagliate le figure.
   
2. Piegate il foglio come nella foto (A) in lungo
   
3. Tagliate lungo le linee curve... vedete foto (B)
4. Piegate queste sezioni indietro da tutte due le parti del foglio e premere con il pollice lungo le linee tratteggiate, vedete foto (C)
5. Tirate su delicatamente con cura queste sezioni tagliate e piegate il biglietto in quattro.
6. Aprite il biglietto come nella foto (D)

Now you can glue the snowman and snowball in the popup sections. Be careful to position the snowman as indicated so that his hat will not show outside the card once folded. Do not worry if he looks slanting , he will stand out right once the card is opened.

Adesso potete incollare il pupazzo di neve e la palla di neve nelle sezioni indicate. Posizionare con attenzione il pupazzo di neve in modo che il suo cappello non s'intravede quando il biglietto è chiuso. Non preoccupatevi se vi sembra storto adesso, sarà in piedi diritto una volta aperto il biglietto . Divertitevi!

It is amazing how much Tod has changed in these 3 months that we've had him with us. He was so thin, he weighed barely 2 Kilos when we welcomed him in our family and now look at him... he is now 4 Kilos and is fine and happy.
E' incredibile come Tod sia cambiato in questi 3 mesi che sta con noi. Era cosi magro, pesava appena 2 kili ... adesso pesa 4 kili e sta bene .
