Cinnamon Dough Ornament (Air Freshener)

Hello firends!
I hope you are enjoying your Sunday! Today I would like to show you what I 've been up to this week.
I finally decided to freshen the air in my home without using the chemical air fresheners sold at supermarkets. I made this ornament with Cinnamon dough and I wish you could smell the nice scent it radiates... it's just right to bring in the Christmas spirit.
Here's how to make this cinnamon dough ornament.

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 cup cinnamon powder
  • 1 cup applesauce ( I used 3 medium apples for the sauce * Granny Smith*)
  • 1/4 cup white craft glue
  • Small flower pot
  • Raffia ribbon
  • A Chinese chopstick.

  • Mix the cinnamon, applesauce and glue in a mixing bowl until it forms a dough. If the dough feels too stiff or dry to work with, add a little bit of water--1 tsp. at a time, until the dough forms a good, workable consistency.
  • Place the ball of dough between two large sheets of wax paper. Use a rolling pin to flatten the dough between the two sheets to approximately 1/2-inch thickness
  • Use a star template , place on the flattened dough and cut around the star.
  • Make about 15 small balls with the rest of the dough and fill the base of the flower pot with some of the left over dough do not fill to the brim... you should leave 2 to 3 cms of empty space .
  • Cut the wooden chop stick to a lenght of 5 inches, poke it into the thickness of the star and leave it to rest flat on some wax paper together with all the small dough balls.
  • Allow to dry on a sheet of wax paper or a cooling rack for 48 to 72 hours.
  • With the leftover piece of chop stick make a hole in the dough inside the flower pot. ( This is the hole where you'll position the star upright inside the pot)
  • When the dough ornaments are dry pour some glue into the tiny hole you made inside the flower pot dough and position the star and wooden stick ... if you prefer you can glue on some golden sequins to the star's surface as I did but this is optional.
  • Place the small dough balls all around the wooden stick filling the pot to the brim.
  • Finally tie some raffia ribbon into a bow around the stick... now your Cinnamon Air Freshener Ornament is complete.
You can now enjoy the pleasant smell !

Warning:
Keep this away from children's reach, they may mistake the star and balls for cookies or candies.

Ciao a tutti!

* 1 tazza di cannella in polvere
* 1 tazza di salsa di mele ( fatta con 3 mele medie "Granny Smith*)
* 1 / 4 tazza colla vinilica bianca
* Piccolo vaso per fiori in plastica o terra cotta.
* Rafia o nastro
* Un bastoncino cinese.
