Very Curious Apple Cake --- Torta di Mele molto curiosa

I came across this curious recipe for an Apple cake where you do not need to blend the ingredients and decided to save it to try it out.
I haven't tried it yet but I thought I'd share it on my blog. Here is a video to help you follow the various steps, it is in Italian but I am sure it is easy to follow. You will find the whole recipe just below the video.

You will need 5 large apples (about 1.3 kg of apples), to create 3 layers of apples on a baking dish 30 x 20 x 6 cm,
500g of flour "00",
300 g of sugar,
1 packet baking powder,
5 eggs,
200g of butter,
1 cup of Marsala Wine.
Thoroughly mix flour, sugar and yeast.
Brush the pan
with butter and flour .
Place an even layer of flour and cover completely with apples cut into thin slices.
Place a second layer of flour and cover with the apples, put the third layer of flour and cover it with apples.
The fourth layer of flour will finish the cake.
Whisk the 5 eggs, add the Marsala and pour evenly over the egg trying to completely cover the cake. To make sure that
the liquid can penetrate all the layers tilt the pan several times.
Cut the butter into thin pieces and cover the cake.
Bake at 200 degrees for about 60 minutes.
The cake can be served warm or at room temperature!

1 bicchiere di Marsala all'uovo.
Mescolare bene farina, zucchero e lievito.

It sounds like a delicious and easy recipe. I may have to try it as my husband loves apple pies (cakes) and also Marsala wine :)

@ UNVOLOLIBERO E WANESIA

It sounds divine....but I wonder if you could tell me what 1 packet of baking powder is equal to? a teaspoon?

Sue said...

LEOLA,
A teaspoon of baking powder is about 5 grams, the packet mentioned in the recipe is about 16gr(these are the packets we get in Italy) so that should be about 3 teaspoons of baking powder.
Sue.
